A CONCERT.

. The concert held in St. James's Hall last Thursday night, in aid of the Anglican Home Scout Troop, proved to be of exceptional merit. There -were several performers "who were new to Hutt audiences, and their items were greatly appreciated. .Mr. House acted as "announcer, '' and explained that tShree gentlemen, of whom he was one! had decorated the platform which was most artistic with its decorations "of bamboo and other greenery. The audience attested its appreciation of "the performance by encoring every item on the programme. rA number of boys from the Anglican Boys*■ Home opened the concert with a rousing haka, after which. Miss 2ell O'Kane rendered a muck appreciated pianoforte solo. Mr. B. Glading then proved most popular in "The Lute Player," his encore being "Friend o' Mine." Miss Mona CarTick then very feelingly sang "The Three Fishers. "Miss Majorie Lee, who possesses a lyric soprano voice.of charm ing quality, next sang "Nightingale of June," after which Miss Jessie Dunl nutt very piquantly recited "Julius Uses the Phone." Mrs Schmidt brought the first half of the programme to a; close by singing charmingly "Black-

"bird Song." Miss Mona Carrick was again ; heard in "I Did Not Know," after which', a humorous number '*' I 'm the Leader of the Band," by Mr. Man agan earned tumultuous applause. The Misses Lee and White then rendered a; vocal duet, whicSi was partictlarly pleasing." Mandalay," by Mr. E. Glading followed, after which. Miss Dunnet sang "None So Pretty," as piquantly as she had formerly,'recited. Mrs Schmidt was then heard in "Bird Sgng at Eventide," afteT which Mr. AsSheton Harbord, who was announced on the programme as " Entertainer at the Piano/ ' proved so entertaining that he

was three times recalled. The singing of the "National Anthem" brought a very high-class entertainment to a close. Mrs. O'Kane was the capable uccompaniste for the evening.
