GIRL GUIDES.
A ineeting of the IJistriet Committee of the Girl Guides was ield., recently in St. James Church Schoolroom. Miss SeaOy "vvas in the chair and there was. a good attendance of memibers.. In the absence of Mrs. Leightony who has gone, abroad, Mts. Hurst wa? appointed secretary and and Mrs. Cook was appointed delegate to tho Provincial
Committee. It was decided that a letter be sent to Mrs. Leighton expressing the thanks of the committee for »h.er valuable services since the inception, of' th Guide Movement in the Hutt Valley. This was carried unanimously. THE SHIELD. Hutt Valley Girl Guides wid'l be- interested in the Shield contest held, at T'etonc on Saturday, June 2l»t. Tie •Shield has just been presented to the Hutt Valley Companies by the District Commissioner (Miss Scaly). To/compete for this, the Guides had to show efficiency and 'have their choice of four out of ■five subjects, namely: folk dancing, neecllowork, . ambulance, singing and signadiling drill.., Tbe Ist Lower Hutt Company was successful in winning the Shield for this year, with Ist ' : Petone Company following up. with 2nd place in the contest. .
