A HUTT COMPOSER.

Amongst the varied interests which are so well served by the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand those of the children are well catered for.

Every evening they have their varied and bright Children's hour, anl bands of small folk each evening come to the studios to assist in entertaining other children mainly residents in the more

remote' districts and the back blocks with their songs, recitations, and instrumental numbers. And. very successfully do those' clever and well trained children take their parts in whait is generally an excellent performance, and it is we'll known that a big proportion of adult listeners greatly enjoy listening to the fresh-young childrens voices, and thoroughly appreciate their efforts * In addition to these evening sessions, a c&ildrens song service is conducted each Sunday by a Minister of religion on unsecitarian Knes, at which the choirs; of the Wellington district Sunday Schools (and their nu;mbor appears, to' be legion) thoroughly enjoy helping in the musical port-ions. They sing harmoniously and lustily the well known child: reh hymns and ♦'Uncle George," who conducts the service -has more adult listeners than he knows of who, as who does not, enjoy hearing the kiddies sing. And the "kiddies" are now to have a -hymn of their very own. For in response to the invitation of the "Radio Record" many writers have, composed and sent in the'words, of their own composition, of a hymn suitable for children's use, and of the many submitted one has been selected by the adjudicators. It is tlife work of Mr. John Storm, and is ar graceful and devotional theme. And to euaible the children to .get the best use of it, a number of musicians were asked to write suitable music for it- We are informed that so great a nuni/ber were presented, and -the quality was so excellent, that the judges had much difficulty in selecting the one that was tp be honoured with the title of

New Zealand Children's Kadio Hymn." It is with pleasure that we learn that the place of honow. was eventually awarded to Mr. Claude M. Hayden of Lower Hutt. Mr. Hayden hasi written a simple but dignified air, and has wedded to the devotional words of the hymn a "tune." which the youngsters will love and enjoy, while musicians of more advanced years will appreciate the tuner ful and scholarly work -he has given. We congratulate both the writer of the words and. the composer of the music upon their aehievment.

Mr. Haydcn has called his >tune by the patriotic name of "Hutt."
