RED CROSS CLOTHING RELIEF

DEPOT.

(To the Editor)

■ Sir, —We have to acknowledge with thanks two anonymous parcels of clothes and shoes for the aibove and one from Mrs Richmond, Ludlani Crescent, omitted last week, Mr. Brown, Lower Hutt, five shillings and a most useful patchwork quilt, which was immediately passed over to the family for Whom an appeal was made some weeks ago. Coat and cardigan from Mrs. Humphries, Stevens Road. Very great practical sympathy has been by-, the Waiwhetu Methodist Ladies' Gruild, who have taken a parcel of out-size things to cut down for children. They are also buying and making some "little stranger clothes, doing the work voluntarily and at their own expense. We cannot express our gratitude ■suflßr" eienfiy. The eot has found a tenant, but one person's gain had to foe two others' diappointment, as three wanted itj besides an urgent appeal from a mather who goes amt to work for a pram in wihieh to leave the baby while she does her job; and to wheel it to and from her place of work. We suppose the numerous jumble sales have accounted for all the old clothes in the district, as none came in for a fortnight, but Headquarters came to our help in time to open last Thursday, with stocks from Wellington, kinily conveyed 'by Cunningham Bros., without whose help from the srtart we should not have been able to manage. Mesdames Little and Bett, of Oriental Bay and Miramar, also sent useful parcels. On Thursday last we 'had 16 callers, a'l-1 with families, to whom we were aible to give 148 -garments, 14 coats, S pairs of shoes, 3 bed-covers, cardigans, socks, collars and ties etc., ani 2/- fare to a man who hadto visit Headquarters and had no money. We are cleared*out once more, but hope .more will have arrived before this is in print. Parcels will be gratefully accepted/at the 'Hutt

News' office,: or can be called for by carrier if post card is sent to Mrs. Joyce, Leighiton Avenue. Petone residents may leav.e parcels at "Hutt and Petone Chronicle" offices, from wMoh arrangements can be made to nave them sent to the Hutt rooms ( in ITeist's Buildings.—l am etc., . .

F. E. JOYCE, Secretary Ladies's Auxiliary, Red Cross Society.
