N.Z. ALPINE AND ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY .
The first annual meeting of tie above society was held in the Metihodist Hall on Wednesday evening, 11th. inst. Considering the stormy weatiher there was a satisfactoryattendance. The president, Mt. Hope B. Gibbons, presided. The annual report, which was published in last weekV'Hutt" Naws", also .the balance sheet were 'botih, adopted. Tihe director, Mr. T. W. Attwobd, 'in speaking to the report acknowledged •the society's indebtedness to the Hutt Borough Council for the valued assistance rendered to t*he society since its inception. He warned his hearers that it might not be possible for the Borough Council to assist so liberaly during the present year. He (had laid plans to carry out further development in the rockeries for the ensuring year and he urged that this might still ibe done," in s>pise of the position' with the local1 body, if the memibers would come to his assistance and by means of working bees assist in doing some of the necessary work. He said that the extension of the garden was tthie best propaganda the society could -have. The distribution of plants had necessarily to be restricted dast •year, owing to the limited stocks, butt he. gave his assurance that mernlbers wouiDd get full worth for their subscription in tiie current year. It was decided on the recommendation of the Propoganda Committee to supply through • the Press seasonal monthly notes on Rock Gardening. It was agreed to make the destribution of plants free to members, less cost of transit, but the question of limitation ,if any, should be loft to .the discretion of the Distribution Committee. The following offiers were elected:President, Mr. Hope B. Gibbons (reelected) • : Vice-Presidents: Mr. J. G. Helyar and Mr. J. G. Me Kenzie (Wellington); I Sir Edwin Mitehe^lson (Auckland); Dr. [H. H. Allan, (Manawatu); Mr. L. S. Mackie (Taranaki); Mr. David Tannock, (Dunedin); Mr. R. M, Laing, (Christchiireh) j Auditor, Mr. W. R. Eobson (re-elected) By the rules of the society six memibers of the Council retired :by lot. The following were elected to full the vacancies.- E. D. Harland, A. J.Grierson, W. H f Smith, S. T. Seddon. H.P.Kidson, J. A.Bruce. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the services of tiie Pro•liminary committee responsible for the foundation of the society and to the Hutt BoToiiigh Council for valuable services rendered. Votes of thanks to the Chairman, tie Director and the Press, were passed ■and a very pleasant evening terminated with a voluntary arrangement' for a working Bee on-tbe'f allowing Saturday.
