LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

A unique Tiieeting of the Lower Hutt Branch, of the League of Mofhei-s was 'held on Thursday, May 15th and iwas attemled by about 300 women. Special honour was paid to the old folk of the district, rnajiy of "whom were present !by special invitation. The meeting opened with the League prayer and a heartfeOt welcome by the President, Mrs Ei'nest Dawson, after which the visitors w^otc presented by Mrs Barron with dainty lavender posies, suitably iii'scrflDed. "Poems on old age and the reading of some telling reminisceneces proved most interesting, as did tihe. littie talk on early, days -by Mrs C. W. Adams, A little competition fox the oldest lady in the roam was won Iby Mrs. Blinkhorn, w-ho was presented with a 'basket of laveriider sweet peas. Mrs McMcnuimin was second and received a lavender sachet, iwhWe Mesdames Simpson and Fleet 'gained lavender handkerchiefs for holdimg tihe honouT of having the most grarid-ichildTen and .great-grand children respectively. "The President was also the recipient of a dainty floral tribute from the members, presented -by Mrs Lowe. During, the afternoon' tea served.under the eonvenorsihip 'of Mrs; N"atu'sch, quaint eaaly-day fashions in circus were displayed by Mesdames Gtostelaw and Page. Mesdaanes Barron and Smidt added to the afternoon's enjoyauent by their sweet rendition of '•'Love's Old Sweet Song" and "/Silver Threads Among the Gold," respectively. A memorable adrternaon was brought to .a close by the singing of "Hoane Street Horne '' and the National Anfh'Om. Many of the'elderly ladies were conveyed to and from the meeting by members with ears aid flowei-s T\ rere sent tO;l those who were mrnible to attend. The Leaigue 'hopns .that the old people, who so sweetly, graced thife '' Lavender and Old Lace meeting .will believp in tihe sincerity of the little inscription on the posies:—"To yon who •havoe'so iioibly borne the heat and burden of tie day,,do w;e offer welcome, admiration' —-reverence! "
