STOKES' VALLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
Even pouring rain failed to damp the ai'dour of many members of Stokes "Valley Women 7s Institute, * nor deter t>hem from attending the monthly meeting held at the home of Mrs iJurney on April 30th. All thoughts of unpleasant conditions outside were, however, soon forgotten in warm rooms ■yritih. blazing fires, and in the interest excited by a demonstration of "j^atacy ■Cheese Making." This was given by Miss Crawford of Masssey Agricultural College, and showed how easily it can t>e done with ordinary household, appli* anees. The results of "the demonstra<tion were afterwards sold and on bez Ing tasted, proved delicious. After afternoon tea, Miss Crawford gave a short talk in which, she outlined the aims and ideals of Women's Institutes. She pointed out that the Conetitution is non political, democratic, and undenominational. The chief objects are the promotion of friendship, awd mutual help and co-operation, par* tieiularly/~anw>ng women in country disiricts, to give them an interest outside i&e ordinary groove of daily life and so
make life brighter generally. She showed how this is done by means of demonstrations in tseftal iandictafte, •exchange of household hints, folk songs and dances, etc. .
This talk was of jjarticular interest to several new members, present, as well us to o:der ones, and a very hearty vote "of thanlcs was accorded Miss;
Crawford
