There is much, effort now-a-days on the part of hostesses to provide original entertainment for their guests, but a Huti hostess recently hit—inadvertently—on a quite novel "wind-up" to, a tea^arty. It was a family birthday party and after theT preliminary courses had been effectually demolished, ;t>he hostess went, in search of the fruit: salad, but failing to find i* where she expected, called on one or two of the family to assist "in the search',: /wiiich they did, till, the search, extended to overy room in the house,' and every, member of the party was engaged in "it, yet the seductive desser,t .was not f orthcomhi'g, till after about ten minutes' diligent searc-h, there was. a shout from, •the Tear, of the house, and a member ■of the family emerged—from the washhouse, triumphantlybearing the illusive dessert, and explaining that Jie had rescued it from the, copper! ' Then the much malignedv parent of an'--; almost, grown-up famiiy had explain to .bewildered relatives .'that' had she not resorted to such measures, t-here would have been no dessert!
