FEWER MARRIAGES.
POSITION IN SYDNEY
It has been placed on recoroi with expressions of regret from various quarters that there has been a falling off in the number of weddings in Sydney, says the correspondent of the Melbourne Argus. The stores are aware of the fact, and dressmakers echo their finding, sigh-
ing over it
Caterers seem to have more direct contact with the public. They say that, there is not only a reduction in the number of wedding but that some of those who are being wed do so with the word "economy" on their lips. The result is that tenders for wedding breakfasts have to be much, more carefully considered, svan for "tins b»g occasions."
The clergy do net speak abrat these things—iot to the man in the street; — but in conversation with, xrteudd they admit that the conditions which seem to bo dominating most countries of the civilised world manifests itself in connecton with marriages. House and land agents are definite in their statement that now is the time to wed seeing that
rents are lower than ever before in recent decades. Bungalows can be haci for what was recently the rent of half a dwelling.
