B. S. ASSOCIATION.
HUTT VALLEY- BRANCH
The Annual General Meeting of the Hutt Valley Branch of the Wellington Returned Soldiers 7 Association was held at the Oddfellows VHall, Petone, on April 15th, about twenty-five members being present. Col. G. T. Hall, president, and Major J. T. Watson, secretary of the parent body, were also present and received an ovation from members.
After the minutes of the last general meeting had been read and confirmed, and the annual report read and adopted, the president, Mr E. W. Toomath in a brief speech gave an outline of the activities of the past year. He mentioned that the year had not been a particularly good one financially, andj asked members for their whole-hearted support and cooperation. Apathy he pointed out was a dangerous thing.
Appreciation was also expressed for the splendid work of the excellent ladies committee which the branch possessed.
Thanks were also tendered .to the Press for reports, the local picture theatres for screen announcements, and to the various War Belief Associations for assistance given. He also wisheoi to thank the Executive for their support in the past year.
Col. Hall then expressed Ms pleasure at being able to be present-at the General Meeting, and gave a brief outline of the work of the Wellington R.S.A. particularly among, the hundred and thirty six diggers who were mental patients at; Porirua. TheiT life was being considerably brightened by the weekly visits of Major Watson, with small gifts and comforts. He appealed to members to get an increased membership. Major Watson then gave a brief resume of the work of the R.S.A. in regard to pensions and how. successful they hadi been in their appeals. Both gentlemen were accorded an. acclamation.
The Balance sheet was then read and adopted after which a general discussion took place. ■"'•'.••'.'•■•/•';; ;
Nominations worn then called for
election of officers and the following were elected:— .
President, R. W. Toomath; vice-presi-dents, S. M. Hobba, Dr. M. B. M. Tweedy arid A. T. Duncan; non. secretary, L.' C. Driver, hon. "treasurer, G. Hayton'j executive, Messrs J. W r Andrews, W. J. Ryan, H. C. Allison, Ti. R. Buekeridge, J. S. Lee, P. G. Reedy, E. A. Toomath, and A. W. Tresidder.
It was unanimously decided that the Executive supported by as many members possible, attend both the morning commemoration service at Lower Hutib, andi the afternoon service at Petone on
Anzae Day .
