WAIMARIE CROQUET CLUB.
A most enjoyable social afternoon was held under bhe auspices of the above club on. Tuesday, April Btii, the occasion being- the "wind-up" of the croquet season. A large gathering" of members ' and -honorary l members was present. Mrs Savage (president) introduced Lady. Egberts (patroness of the clufo), and invited" her to present the trophies won during the season.. ' The following are the winners of tihe various trophies:—Baldwin Cup: winner, Mrs Taylor; runner-up, Mrs WalkeT. Intermediate Cup: Mrß.'W. -T. .Strand; run-ner-up, Mrs Roundhili. A special prize
was awarded to Mrs. Parker who had
completed all her games. Cameron Cup: Mrs. McDonald;" runner-up, Mrs Murphy. Honorary Members' Shield: Mrs Taylor; runner-aip, Mrs'Mouat.1 Strand Shield, -Mrs McDonald; runner-up, Mrs Murphy. The special trophy eontritouted by Mrs Norris was won by Mrsl. Savage.
B. Grades-Special trophy given by Mrs Savage ancl.Mrs Non-iSj won by Mrs. NiehollB; runner-up, Mrs Vaughan. Most inipi'oved junior player, Mrs W. Cole.
Competitions were held during the afternon, the winners being as followsi-r- ---" Squares "—Mesdames Yates and Ed-" die: ''Peg-out''r- Mesdames Bennett and Ballinger. '' Target' '—-Mesdames Qasey and Pollock.
The club desires tar thank the following ladies for donating tropMes:—The HonoTary Members' Trophy was contributed by Mrs Harman, and each of the fbllowing ladies were also responsible for a trophy: —Mesdames Savage, Mouat, Exton, Taylor, Walker, Parker, McDonald, Cameron, Murphy, Norris, and Eoutley. -
Each, of ..the groundsmen was presented, with a.tangible recognition of their assistance during the season.
Before the close of tlie " afternoon 't Lady Roberts, on behalf of the. club, presented the president, Mrs Savage, with a silver hot water jug,.and: Mrs,
Cameron, who is retiring after serving for six years as secretary, was presented- with an electric reading lamp, as a token of gratitude for her long period of service. The ,hon. treasurer, Mrs. Murphy, was also the recipient of a gift, in the form of dainty afternoon tea cups, saucers and plates.
. Afternoon tea was served in tihe club's paviiion in Biddiford Park and altogether the last function of the season in connection with the club was one to be most happily remembered.
A happy little party for members of the above elub t was held on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the closing of. the croquet season. Numerous competitions . were held, the following ladies being ~ the _ winners:—'' Peg Out winrefs: first, Mrs-Savage; second, Mrs. Murphy. ■ "Squares": first, Mrs. Judd; second, Mts Strand. '' Target^' first, Mrs Walker-5 second, Mrs Taylor. "Golf" first, Mrs Moore; second, Mrs B. P. i Lees.' "Lucky Number," Mrs. A. Y. Lees. :
