SWIMMING.
For the Hutrt Valley Swimming Club's reeent sports carnival at th<> Riddiford Baths for t-he school children of the Hutt Valley, the weather w»s perfect and there was a good attendance of the public. The Mayor (Sir Alexander Roberts) presented medals to the winners of the 50 yards girls' a.-.d boys' championship. The member for the district, Mr. Nash and Mrs Nash wore interested spectators during the af+crnoon. An apology was receive! f 10m the Minister of Education.. (Hon. lE. Atmore).
Competition was keen among the children. The 50 yards girls' champions-hip was won by Miss Shirley Martin&ale,' of the Sacred Heart Convent, Lower Hutt. This girl shows promise of male- j ing a first-class swimmer. The same also applies to D. Bertinshaw of Eastern Hutt School, who won t!ie 50 yards boys^ championship. The f ollowiig schools competed:—Eastern Hutt, Hntt Central, Waiwetu, Wilford, Boulcott Potone, St. Tmomas's Convent, Nai Nai, Hutt Convent, Sacred Heart Ooivent. The points trophy was woe by Eastern Hutt School.
