SOCCER CONTROL
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION
A HIGH COMPLIMENT
Encouraging reports were submitted At the annual meeting of the Wellington Football Association, on Wednesday evening. It was one of the shortest meetings held ■ for some years, there being Absolute unity among the delegates in all matters brought forward. Mr J. J^ Roberts presided over a good attencV :anee. The adoption of the annual report and "balance sheet was moved by the president, who congratulated the association upon its sound position. The City Council, he saidi, had been very fair in. the matter of grounds but that was well deserved on account of the good work done by the association among the boys. The Management Committee had rendered good service. The chairman of the New Zealand Council/Mr F. Campbell, hed expressed thanks to the Wellington Association for its generous help. Wellington was the bright spot in the game in the Dominion, for nearly all the other associations were in low water. The president spoke appreciatively of the •services rendered! by Mr W. Duncan for several years as treasurer and also as chairman of the Management Committee. Members would be sorry to see that the prospects of paying a visit to Australia were not very bright. The trouble there had not been very well handled by the Australian authorities. The game had gone ahead in Australia, so that they •were getting good gates. Some players put in a request for payment for services ,and the Australian Association should have been prepared to meet the demand as was tuone by the English Association, thus keeping both the tpro•fessional and amateur game under one control. They would not agree, and the Professional element seceded and formed
the. States League. There were two bodies now at loggerheads and unless their differences were settledi it was unlikely that a New Zealand team would go to Australia this year
Mr W. B. Hicks seconded the motion paying a tribute to the services rendered by coaches and referees.
The motion was carried unanimously.
The application of Nada Club (Northumberland and Durham Association) for affiliation was granted.
