ESCAPE FROM PRISON

John Tahu Andrews, a Maori, aged 19, who appeared before Mr E. Page,. n&.M. in the Magistrate's Court yesterdiay, described Ms round of crime after escaping from Wi Tako Prison, near Trentham, on March 19, in a statement read by Detective. Robinson. He admitted four charges of breaking and entering and theft, one of theft and one of being an incorrigible rogue, anoi he waseomniitted to the Supreme Court for sentence. Accused said in the statement that he was serving three years' reformative detention for forgery .After breaking from the prison he walked over the hills and camped for the night above Petone. Next dayi he went to Moera Settlement and broke into a house there. Then he walked to Wellington and broke into three more houses near the city. He left some of his prison clothes at Petone and the rest in some bushes at Mornington, changing into those he had stolen. "Have you anything to sayt" the Magistrate asked accuseo. "Yes I would like to lodge a complaint against the prison," accused Teplied. "That is not a matter that concerns us at the present moment,' * the Magistrate said. "If you write out your complaint and send it to me I will forward it to the proper authorities."
