LAST LARGE SALE
Half a million pounds has been paioi for subdivided Government lands in eastern Lower Hutt since August, 1926, when the first sale was-held. This represents probably the biggest forwardv jn<s*enient in suburban closer settlement that has occurred in New Zealand, as the .sale of the sections has been followed by a honie-building campaign that bids t fair to convert the lower part of the
Hutt Valley into a city in the not far -distant future. There have been in the period mentioned) twenty-five sales. The final auction of large size was
held at the Dominion Farmer's Instijfite. Hall last night. The seating capawas taxed to accommodate those
present.
The sections offered were contained in blocks 28 and 29, near Waterloo station, and fronting Knight's Road, Mahoe Street ,and Birch Street, at the east--em end of which is situated the railway station mentioned. The landi is level, and being near to the settled parts of Lower Hutt, commanded fair prices.
The sales effected last night were asi O'Shea, £345; section 10, A. W. Lewis, £345; section 11, W. L. Stewart, £330; section 12; C. M. Hanson, £330; sections 8, H. Overend, £345; section 9, B. 16 and 17, L. G. Thompson, £310; sections 18 and 19, N. M. Lauriston, £300; section 7, D. M. Jarvey, £310; section Sections 2 and 3, T. R. Williams, £340 each; section 4, H. W. Williams, £340; -tions 22 and 23, J. F. Duekett, £300; sections 26 and 27, J. Wright, £260.
The Birch Street (shopping area, Gi-
vided for the most part into sections with frontages 20ft) sections were offered at from £200 to £260, without eliciting bids. Section 49 on the corner opposite the station was sold to Eva Mason for £300.
Sections 42 and 43 on the corner of Knight's Road and Birch Street, directly opposite the Railway Station, have "been secured, for post office purposes.

The sections were sold subject to the usual conditions, for (1) cash,, (2) cash by instalments, or (3) by special deferred payments over a period of 34i years.
