This week Wellington has honoured 'Mr Francis Chiche3ter," a former xesi-' dent of the Hutt,. on his .return to jNew Zealand after accomplishing a most remarkable feat of flying solo in his own Moth aerophane from London to • Sydney, after only a few 'weeks tuition.

Mr. Chiehester- was accorded a tremendous welcome as he .stepped ashore .from; the "Maunganui" and later was given a civic reception by the Mayor (Mr. G-. A. Troup), with "officials; oi: the Wellington Aero Club, and Representatives of the Government. ••

Almost daily we hear pf new and remarkable achievements- in tie realms of aviation and all New Zealanders will rejoice to t>hink that one of the greatest of these has been secured to his country.. Ldbally; we may hope that it will have tie effect of awakening more of the air sense in th« local population and that.it will be generally recognised that an aviation, base should be established in the Hutt "Valley if our district is going to occupy the position of commercial importance it is so obviously destined to fill.
