WAIWHETU SCOUT TROOP FORMED.
A well attended meeting of the residents of Waiwhetu was held In the Anglican. Church Room on- Tuesdayevening for the purpose of forming a local Scout Troop. Mr. W, Nicholls presided and there were also .present the Scout Commissioner (Sir. Alfred Robin), Mr. Amos (representative of the Dominion Executive), Mr. Nelson (District Commissioner), Mr3. Hoggard and Mrs. Joyce.
Sir. Alfred Robin gave an interesting talk on principles of the Scout movement and explained the meaning of the various sections of the Scout
vow. He said there was a t great, lack of knowledge of the ob^jjjpto .^£ the scout movement among i>h.e vglSSteSttl public. The movement W#s ~ world wide, it was non-sectarian, ftdjd, it was non-military, but the great tmdferlying principle was patriotisncu.'.W|th*ihe exception of a Jewish-troop' which had boon formed on Monfla^ evening there was no strictly esiftclaL:' troop. The whole training tended to bring about peace and good^ip'in the world.

It was im&ninLously decided to form the Waistfhetu Troop and a strong general cpmWitfcee' of ladies and gentlemen was ..formed The following officers were I eleet'ed: —Scout Master, Mr. W. i^icholls, Deputy Scout Master \ Mr. Doucettj' Cub Mistress, Mrs. Joyce.
, Archdeacon Hansell, president of the IJoys '' Home Troop expressed pleasure t&stt the troop had been formed. He considered the work of General Baden Powell had been a marvellous inspiration. It iad materially assisted in the upbringing of the' child during the difficult times since the war. T-he movement was helping to bring about the peace of the world, TJxe .wonderful course of training the scout Teceived taught him discipline and self dependent >>. He considered the movement had been a God-send. .
Mr, Amos said that in his expert ea.M of school life he had found the scout movement of great assistance to : the teacih-ers and to the general work of the school. He advised youngsters present to start doing their good deeds nt icrae by assisting their parents; he also kept them well entertained by recounting some appropriate stories.
