VANDALISM
HUTT PARKS AND FLAYING *
AREAS SUFFER.
At Monday night's meeting of the Lower Butt Borough Council the Mayor (Mr W. T. Strand) said the time had arrived to put a stop to the vandalism that is-taking place in the parks and playing areas. He was determined, to put a stop to it. It was not fair to the public-spirited citizens who h&d given land and money to develop these areas. He thought the people should ' * Protect their Property.' '" Therewere many citizens who would be prepared to assist and these could be appointed special constables. He was happy tosay that the hoodlum element was largely composed-of outsiders who came into the borough and did the damage. ■■ Cr. Campbell said to swear in special constables flavoured of a war. He thought it would be unwise ,to invest power in special constables. Cr., Roberts referred to the great amount of damage being done. He favoured "park rangers" Tseing appointed. : After a good deal of discussion which! showed the Council were determined to put a stop to the vandalism, the matter was referred to the Heseirves Committee.
