BOWLING SEASON STARTS.

OPENING OF THE HUTT BOWLING

CLUB

The Hutt Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club commenced its 25th season on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and visitors, including a number of ladies. The presi-, dent, Mr. J. Kennington, extended a cordial welcome to the visitors and referred to the absence of several old bowlers including Mr. C. Trevethick and Mr. A. Simpson. motion of sympathy to the families of several bowlers who had passed away was carried in silence. Mrs. Kennington threw up the first bowl of the season and succeeded in '' kissing the Kitty. '' The blue and red was then hoisted to the masthead and the green declared open for play. Ten rinks were made up and among those taking part were four players from Masterton. ■ Both greens, also the tennis courts, are in excellent heart this year thanks to the constant care of Mr. Ayson, the care-' taker, many old players., remarking that it is many years 'since the greens looked so healthy.

A visit was made to the tennis courts and after a few remarks the president drove the first ball across the net and declared the tennis season open":

A very dainty afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Kennington, assisted by ladies of the croquet and tennis sections.
