LOWER HUTT GALA
The 1928 Easter Gala deserved a better fate; it was well organisd and managed, everything working smoothly and harmoniously, and the function opened with great hopes until the rain came.
Many people say, "Why hold the <Gala at Easter —too late in the year! The weather breaks" —this can be considered before next Easter. Can a more suitable time be found?
It is hard to anticipate "what would have been the result if favourable weather had been experienced.
As soon as the position was realised, the Committee unanimously decided to carry on to be able to show a credit balance, and judging from reports this should be the case.
■ As the credit balance will be small, it would be a graceful act on the part of the Committee to donate the whole amount to the High School Grounds, for this is the second year in which the High School staff and pupils have worked enthusiastically to make the Gala a success. If necessary the Council could allocate funds to the Recreation Ground, but would be unable to do so for the High School Grounds.
The Gala Committee should be guided by the motto, "If at first you don't succeed, try again and again.'' Better luck next time.
