LOWER HUTT CIVIC ASSOCIATION

At the annual meeting of the above Association held recently Mr Strong, President, gave a brief resume of the Association's work during the yeaT.

The address indicated the aggressive results of the attendance on the Local "Bills Committed" of -PauJi-amonfc-and-^the^ insertion in the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas-Lighting Amendment Act of a clause providing for a poll of ratepayers on the proposed contract with the Wei- 1 < lington Gas Company; the deputation to r-the Hutt Electric Power Board requesting a reduction in the high charges to consumers of electric current; the increased train service and convenient time-table on the "Waterloo-Wellington route; the prevention of dumping refuse and waste matter in the river-bed area; the proposal that Petone and Lower Hutt Boroughs provide a joint refuse destructor; the successful Hutt River Boprd by-election; and the abolition of automatic telophone toll charges. Mr -Teasdill, Tr en surer, presented the balance sheet which disclosed a satisfactOTv credit balance.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted rs follows; —President Mr Strong; vim-president, Mr Dyke; secretary, Mr Gray; treasurer, Mr Teasdill. Members of Executive r Mr? Osborn and Messrs Belcher and Forsyth.

The meeting adjourned with a vote of thanlcs to the retiring officers.
