At the instance of me Levin and District Patriotic Committee, a meeting ot ladies took place ill the Borough Chambers yesterday afternoon lo consider the general appeal for Ited Cross Funds made by Lord Lansdowne, through the Governor (Lord Liverpool)." The Mayor (Mr U. II Gardener; presided.
Apologies were received from Mrs Kirkcaldio, Mrs .Matthews and Miss llc.Xicklo.
The Mayor said they haxl thought '.t advisable to call them together to make arrangements tor taking part in the general collection to be made oil Thursday next. The committee thought they could not do better than appeal to the ladies, because the success ol the appeal would depend largely on them. Ho suggested that the district and town be divided into email subdivisions and they would then be. able to reach everyone. The work done by the Red Cross Society needed money .0 carry it on—no other work more so. The least we could do was to see that it had funds at its disposal so a.s to attend to our wounded men. The Mayoress moved that the district be divided as suggested, and the different divisions be canvassed by the collectors. This was agreed to. The following collectors to canvass the divisions were 'appointed: Mrs Kilsbv. Mrs R. V. Brow 11. "Mrs B. R. Gardener. Mrs J. Prouse, Mrs R. T). Wallace. Mrs M. H. E. (iorringe, Miss Kilsby, Miss Pink, Miss Cray. Mrs F. Pink, Mrs Smith. Mrs ti. Stealey, Mrs A. Wilson. Miss McJCegg, Mrs H. H. Cork and Mrs Whitaker. Tgiii m jijhw — imi jjweri
