The Levin Borough Council last night pawed accounts for payment totalling £165 9s.
Councillor France told borough councillors last nigthT that the grading ot Bartholomew road was a great success. He recommended councillors to inspect the work, and thought other streets in the borough should be dealt wifh in the same way.
A letter from Mr W. tt. Field, M.f., was received by the Levin. Borough Council last night respecting the dratting ol the Horowhenuia Lake Act, and forwarding copies oi the Act. Owing to the rush of business at the close of the session the bill was held over. It would be introduced next session and the Prime Minister promised to give it precedence in the order of business.
The resignation of Councillor Vincent was received by the Levin Borough Council last niglit. '1 lie Mayor said that Councillor Vincent had placed himself in their hands, and he (the Mayor) thought the council could" grant him six months' leave ol absence with any further extension . that might ! e necessary. Councillor Blenkhorn moved in this direction and Councillor Dempsey seconded the motion. It was carried unanimously.

Councillor Dempsey said that tiie matter was brought up ati the last meeting ot Lin Fire Brigade. There was one llrm, which was a persistent offender.in this respect. People liad had t<> put the lire out at night. it was a serious thing ami he felt that the council should issue a warning to the firm in question. People were living in the premises along Oxford-street and a lire might have fatal results. The Mayor said that the council had bylaws dealing with such Shatters, but sometimes people got lax in their obedience to them. It was coming summer now, and it was necessary that people should be careful m burning rubbish.
At the meeting of the Waiope.hu Domain Board (Levin uorough Council) last night the Town Clerk reported that the Levin Beautifying Society lia'l voted the sum oT £7 10 towards the cost of fencing the domain, and Mr A ilk in had intimated his intention oi : assisting in the same matter, T)y giving posts. He thought' that the hoard should go ahead with the fencing. The Mayor said that Mr Gimhlett had offered to supervise the fencing and Help them generally. tie llionght that the County Council would nelp with the fencing along the road, and the money saved the hoard in this way could he devoted to improvement of the hush itself. He moved that Mr Gimhlett he thanked Tor his offer to assist. Councillor Dempsev referred in appreciative terms of Mr Gimhlett's offer. He considered that the County Council should assist the hoard. The domain would benefit the people in the rounFv as well as the people in the borough. The motion wan agreed to, and it was decided to ask Mr 'Gimhlett to confer with the Borough Council's road overseer re the fencing, the latter to report to the next meeting of the council.
