The usual meeting oi the Levin iiorCouncil was liekl in tTio Council OliamLcrs last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr II R. Gardener). Councillors H. U. France, M. I'WIIa. 15. M. Herrick. 'J. G. Tincont, S. Jones and J. Robertaon.
ROAD OVERSEER'S MSFORT.
The road overseer submitted the tollowing report for the past month During the month oi July it has been very wet. and this has caused a good deal of patching to be done. I think there is more water about at present than at any other time during the pas' ten years. (Springs are breaking out in many places in tlie borongli. Tra-l'nigar-streot is very badly flooded at present: it is the site of an old watercourse. I have opened up tti'e water channels and placed a culvert so as to relieve the residents in the street as much as possible, and ft is reported that the trouble is abating. Tin? intake at the waterworks also has been affected hy the floods. I have given 'it temporary attention. The tunnel requires cleaning out. and the tanks and anchor-holes pumped out and re-limed. T intend to do this tin's week. Dr Da vies .has asked for pormfssion to drain the water from his oJoeErlc Tighf. motor into tthe Bristol-Street watertable. The report was adopted and Dr Davit s's application was Toft in the hands of the Mayor and overseer. CAS MANAGER'S REPORT.
The following report, was submitted liy the gas manager During tlio month ending July 2Gth, a fair amount o ( ' gas fitting hats lieen done, including the installation of two new cookers. The new lamp at the corner of Knwiu and Queeiiwood roads ita.s Been erected. and put into goo<l working order; it is much appreciated by residents n the locality. Tam pleased to sa.v that there is no difficulty in obtaining the pressure required to work The auto mntic lighter: the distance TiavTng 110 detrimental effect. The present high level of spring water within tlio borough, due to the recent heavy rain, has caused 6ome trouble witTi the automatic syphons bringing about tlio of water in the mains. We have done the best under the circumstances, and when things become normal Again, will take (steps to prevent its recurrence. The plant is in good order ,and is giving good results. Our coke is being sold ;is soon as made. The report was adopted.
