A Pleasant Function

On Thursday evening last a very pleasing little ceremony took place m the Weraroa Hall, set apart for the bick troopers when four volunteer nurties were presented with trained photographs of the troopers under their care. Private Aloore made the presentation and in doing so said the photos were just a little acknowledgment of the great debt they owed the ladies who had so kindly nursed tlicm. They could never forget them, and il tliev were -fortunate enough to return to New Zealand they hoped to renew their friendship with them. They hoped a convalescent home would be established in Weraroa, and then tlie.v could come back here. He then presented Nurses Prouse. Chaplin, Sedcole and (Sutherland with photos. Nurse Prouse (matron) in rising to respond, expressed the very great pleasure they all felt in being ahle to do something for the boys, and she hoped that when tlie.v got to the front they would behave as well as they had in the hospital. Tlie.v would never forget them, and their prayers would follow tliem all the time. A trooper ejaculated: il all wi'l you put flowers on our graves? Private Moore and party then betook themselves to the cottage home and presented Nurs's \\ h :* r >k and (Smith with s'.nilar mementos. Mm Whitaker. in r jponding. said the boys could have given them nothing that they would value more. The boys had endeared themselves to all the nurses, and they felt they were losing very dear frieuds. As she could not send hoys of her own to ETie Front, she fell she must do all she could for those who were going to fight their battles for them. She would Tie pleased to nurse any of them at any time and she was sure all the nurses were of the same mind. A musical entertainment coneludcd fhe gathering.
