At the Manchester Assizes on Tuesday. before Mr Justice Sankey and a special jury, Max Gross, formerly manager of the Carlton Hotel, Blackpool, sued Messrs. E. Hulton and Co.(Limited). proprietors of the Daily Despatch, Manchester, for damages for libel. The plaintiff is a native of Saxony. who was naturalized in January of last year. In September the defendants. in reporting a case at the Blackpool Police Court, in which ho was concerned as a hotel manager, put up the heading "Alien in possession: the management of a Blackpool hotel." They also referred to Mr Gross as a Gorman which he regarded as -a term oT abuse. The jury found for the plaintiff and awarded L'oO damages. Judgement wa.s entered accordingly.
