The Peaceful Kaiser.
NEW VERSION OK THE CHRISTMAS SPEECH. A Berlin volunteer gives in a published letti'r the following version of the -speech which the Emperor "delivered in church after the Christmas service which lie attended in the Western theatre of war:—
I could have wished with all ni.y heart that all of us might spend this holy ro.stival at home in peace and happiness. God is my witness that it is no fault of mine that it cannot be so. I did not want the war. It has been forced upon us. Now. however. with the help of God, we will figi't it through to its glorious end. The writer adds:— I am not ashamed to admit that at tli" Emperor's splendid words, thus sp' ken from the heart, tears flowed down our cheeks, tears of emotion and pri e at being Germans, and at being permitted to fight For tlie Fatherland an ! for such" an Emperor.
