.Seven charges were preferred against tlie Rev James Whittam, vicar of Sherljimi. Yoj'ks, at Norton Malton Police (Joint on "Wednesday. He was accused of converting to liis own use and obtaining by false pretences a cheque lor t'l'2s from Mr Andrew Carnegie for tlie organ and of converting toliis own use £37. the property of a clothing cliili. There were also three charges under the Debtors Act for obtaining two loans from moneylenders under false pretences. The Assistant Official Receiver. Scarborough County Court, deposed that the defendant was adjudicated a bankrupt on July 30 last. After further evidence the Bench committed the defendant for trial at the assizes, allowing bail, himself in ii'oo and two sureties of £150 each. The accused was also committed for trial 011 the charge of obtaining £100 I rnni Mr C. Stirling, of London, under false pretences. The hearing of the other charges was adjourned.
