Borough Affairs.
MINTING OF .MUNICIPAL COUNCILLORS. Kevin Borongli Council held it ordinary fortnightly meeting on Monday night, tltf Mayor (Mr IL I?. Gardener) in the chair. The councillors present were Messrs C. Dlenkliorn, .1). S. Mackenzie, P. "ft". Matheson. A. Dempsey. A. E. Haftwolf, H. R. France, and E. S. Lancaster. Leave of absence was gran tod to Councillors 1). Ilannan and R. Prouse. RRTDGE OVER THE OHAU. A discussion on the application n Messrs Adkin and Kav (for a subsidy towards the erection of a bridgover tlie Ohau, near the Gladstone road) is reported under a separate beading in another part of to-day's Chronicle). PLUMBERS' LICENSED. Dr. Frcngley (for the Health Department) asked the council to furnish the full names and Niirnames o every person who holds a plumbers' license from Levin Borongli Council: also a statement of the time fo which the license holds good. Th intormation is required for tli Plumbers' Hoard of New Zealand. The information asked for will b forwarded by the Town Clerk. ROADS AXD WATERWORKS. The overseer of borough works reported as follows : — 'During tlie mouth I have had the stone crusher at work. Three hundred yards metal have been put through, of which :200 yards were screened, ami I—o yards of the screened gravel placed on footpaths diroct from the crusher. Kent, Trafalgar. Qneon, Cambridge. Durham and Oxford street south have been metalled. Kawiu road cutting is almost completed. A little work has been done in the river just above the tunnel intake, where some projecting rocks were turning the river Some ol thL l ni have been removed, making an improvement. to the valve getting blocked in the tunnel there was a .shortage of wiater tor a half-day; otherwise everything is iu goor order. The gasworks manager (Mr A. iiurrell; reported tJiat matters in connection with his department still showed a forward movement. Thephiut was keeping in excellent older, and with the one lead of retorts. Had no difficulty in coping with tho " inter s output. The necessary material for the now main along Cambridge street was iu position, and the laying down would \>» r:ommeneed almost . immediately. Gasfittings have been put dowa 'along' the line, and as soon as the main j« finishod the connections will bo made. During the last week tho stone-' crusher has been at the gasworks, and about GO yards of crushed metal made ready for concrete mixing. Tho manager said he was sure thero would be a ready salo for the asphalt. In conclusion, he stated that the new coal shed had proved to bo >i great boon. It was large and convenient, and minimised the labour considerably, Tho report was adopted.
