A Handy Guide

We have received a copy of the

• •.Motorist's Road Guide" for the North Island, with sectional maps. It is designed to meet the great need of those who travel by motor car or motor cycle, and, indeed, it should prove useful to those whoso means of locomotion is still the "push bike." Every endeavour has been made to ensure that the particulars are absolutely correct, and it can be readily understood that in the compilation of maps and information, considerable expense has been incurred. The information as to where petrol can be obtained and where repairs can be effected should also prove useful. In describing the route from Palmerston to Wellington, tlio following information is given in reference to Levin :—Distance, 65 miles from Wellington, 34 miles from Palmerston ; hotel accommodation, petrol supplies, repairs executed, roads undulating. The roads diverge here, one going via Foxton and the other via Shannon. Road via Foxton is level and good, but five miles longer than via Shannon. Tu in to the right and con-

tinue throe-quarters of a mile, and then turn to the loft at- the finger post showing to Shannon. Leaving Shannon keep to the lower road at the hill, and thero is a fairly stiff grade to the summit, from which there is a down grade, with many .sharp turns, followed by,another hill and undulating roads, with fairly stoop grade." This gives one an idea of the usefulness of the book, each locality throughout the Tsland heing accurately and fully described. The maps are also very handy, and one could find his way in the dark with them. The publishing firm have appointed Mr ,T. W. Thompson to represpst them here, and fixed the nrice of the hook at 2s 6d.
