The times for the first two distances arc world's records. The time the Finn has done in Now York—2-lniin. 18sec. - is not a world's record. Alfred Shrub'b, as an amateur, ran Iko miles in 2-lniin. 12 2-ssec. at Stamford Bridge, London .on May 12, 1901. Hoblnnainen's 2-lniin. 18sec. may, however, be regarded as a professional record, as thero is no time standing for that distance. Hobhmainen turned professional after tho Olympic Games, and went to America. Ho is one of the greatest runners the world has even seen, and was trained on his father's littlo farm in Finland. FIRE IN A PROCESSION. LONDON, Feb. 8. During the progress of a carnival at Tarassa, in Spain, a masked individual started firing confetti from a pistol, prosisting in this pastime until ho set fire to one of tho cars i" a procession. The twenty boys and girls who were in the car made frantic efforts to extinguish tho flames, and iu doing so tho false beards they were wearing became ignited. Then the light and flimsy costumes in which they were garbed caught fire, and within a few seconds all tho occupants of the car wero in flames. The children wero dragged out as quickly as possible, but ono girl was burned to death, while tho condition of nine others is so serious that thev are not expected to recover. A LA XL OF BAYONETS.
