Agricultural Education

1 Tho question of agricultural instruction Wji.s discussed at Tuesday's, meeting -of the Wellington Education Hoard following upon Mr A. 11. Vilu moving: "That in the event of legislation being introduced this session in the direction of extending the scheme of agricultural instruction, the Minister of Education he requested to adopt the recommendation of the Education Commission that as soon as the attendance, in the secondary department of a district high school in an agricultural or pastoral district reaches an average of eighty (this hoard recommends fifty) nil agricultural high school should "he established on the lines of those recently set up in Victoria, and yew South Wales." The mover said they were all agreed that agricultural education was an essential, in the Wellington district. His reason for moving the resolution was that they should urge upon tho Government the necessity of furthering a project which the hoard had already adopted. The inspectors had from time to time stated that tho agricultural courses they had started led to nowhere. At the most only two schools would he needed iu the Wellington district-one. at Levin and one at Masterton. Mr W. Freeman seconded the motion. Messrs A. W. Hogg and J". G. W. Aitken expressed their sympathy with the idea. Members thought that the attendance iu a secondary department should he eighty before an agricultural high school -were established. Mr Vile intimated that he would agree to eighty. The chairman (Mr R. Lee) was of opinion that the hoard's inspectors should report on tho matter before tho hoard committed itself entirely to tho work. After further consideration the motion was carried unanimously.—New Zealand Times.
