At a meeting of the Palmerston North branch of Engine Drivers, Firemen and Cleaners Association, the following resolutions were carried unanimously :—(1) "That this meeting of the Palmerston North blanch of the Engineers, Firemen and Cleaners Association are 'unanimously opposed to the direct representative scheme of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants •is useless, and expect such organisation to do justice to the locomotive department." (2) "This meeting also desires to proclaim its loyalty to the Council of the New Zealand Locomotive Engine Drivers, Firemen and Cleaners Association and heartily approves tho steps being taken tn secure the legal recognition of the Association." (3) "This meeting considers that tho Amalgamated Society of (Railway Servants should be
n ado to prove their contention that tl.ey have seven hundred members nyainst recognition, seeing tliat 108S out of 1450 drivers, firemen and cieaners signed the petition now before the House praying for the legal recognition of the Association."
