SAND DRIFT TROUBLES.

SOMETHING TO BE DONE,

The subjoined letter shows that tuere is an intention on the part of the Government to do something to assist in remedying the sand drift ticWble in various parts of New Zealand :—

Office k>f the Minister of Lands, Wellington. August 22, 1910, Re Sand-drift:

With regard to your letter of the Bth instant, re the question of preventing sand-drift, I quite agree with you that this matter is of great importance, but owing to tho many claims that have been received from various parts of the North Island in connection with drifting sand, I ibave hesitated to place any considerable sum on the Estimates for the purpose mentioned. I will, however, carefully consider the advisability of placing the sum of £100 ffn tho Supplementary Estimates in order that a pamphlet may be prepared giving information to settlers as to the best method of preventing sand draft I have, etc.,

J. G. WARD Yf. H Field, Esq., M.P., Wellington,
