DISTRICT HUNTING NEWS.

Tiie sport of hunting is '•catching on" in this district, more especially in 'the Southern end. The meet .a.t .Man-akau on Wednesday was the third within live days, held in the Hi.-rowhenua county. On Saturday last the run was at Otaki. over a course arranged by .Messrs W. M. Sinieox and A. Si rawbi-id-ge. There were twenty followers, mostly Irom Otaki and Waikanae, Levin being represented by one solitary horseman. A party of liunilsmeii from f.ongbiirn had arranged to be till ere, butthe very rough weather kept them a. way. Perhaps the most interesting run to date was the one at Waikanae, Oil Mond ■av, which took place mainly over the property of Mr Ilir-a Parata. Great pains and trouble had been expended on the preparation of the course. The obstacles were of great variety And included water jumps, substantial logs' vnd fences, brush-is. hen-coops and doubles; and the two checks could be watched bv the large crowd of interested spectators front beginning to cud without .any trouble. All the -arrangements refleeied great credit- on those who bad them in hand viz: Messrs Hira and Tom Parat.i •ind Jas. Edwin.
