The referee in last Saturday's senior fixture Awahou v. Manawatu reported as follows: "L regret having to report to the subunion that during the progress of the I'odtiball match, Awahou v. | Manawatu, on Saturday, 17th l.iust., I was compelled by section 3, sub-section (b) p 20, X.Z. Referees' Association Hand Book of 1010, to 'order one M;iu;iwatu player, bv ■name Burgess, off the ground foi wilful obstruction with foul play, •alter having been penalised for the offence on more occasions tluan one. The said player was guilty of wilful obstruction, foul shouldering, a.n,d using his elbow for foul purposes, and I considered his tactics were too dangerous to allow him to continue playing. Further, T have 'to report that on account of my decision in the a.bavo mentioned case, the Man.a.watu team did. at the instruction of their ca.pta.in, leave the field O'f pla.v. refusing to continue." The case of the player ordered off the field wis first dealt, with and it was 'decided to caution him. Tn reference to the team leaving the field, the captain was present, and from 'the statement received from him it appeared that hid he, at the time, realised the seriousness of his action in taking h.is team off the field he would no,t have done so. The meeting impressed on him that this w.as a matter that should licit be lightly treated, but under the circumstances it was decided to lef the team off with a, caution.
