THE BAZAAR AT SHANNON. (Written by the "Chronicle's" Local Representative.) The bazaar in aid of Mother Mary Joseph's Home of Compassion \v;n opened on Thursday, in the Druids' Hall. Mr W.H. Field, M.1 , ., accompanied by Mrs Field, together with Mother Mary J. Anbert, arrived by the Napier oxpress. Tho party wus met at the station by Mr T. Lind, Mesdamos M. Moynihan, I' , . May and members of the bazaar comni'ttee. Mr Field, who declared the bazaar open, said that he always endoaI voured to be present at any event of this kind in his electorate, and remarked how much he regretted not being able to be present at tho recent Show, and stated how pleased he was to be able- to open a bazaar which was in aid of such a good cause as undoubtedly Mother Mary Aubert's Homo was. He complimented the ladies on their artistic achievement, and hoped the bazaar would be. tho financial success that the cause warranted. Mother Mary Anbert thanked Mr Field for his kindness in performing the opening ceremony, and the ladies of the committee for the hard way in which thev had worked. The stalls, which wore very artistic, were as follows:— " Maranui." — Dressed fibre and green leaf entered largely into the decorations of this stall, which was presided over by Mesdamat J. B. Retter. J. Roach and P. Gill. "Tiie Lolly _ Stall."-This was n creation of pink and white, and was kept by the. Misses Lynch, L. Cur ran and M. Rvan. ■" Australia."-This stall was decorated with blue and white, aiml nn artistic snnic back around paint- »(] by Mr F. May. The stall was under the management of Mesdanios Manning, M.ay, Misses Mason and Laurvig. '•'Shannon."—This was an ex.net replica of a Maori wharo, ihe work of tins Mouton Maoris, under the. ■lirectksn of Mrs Dalton and Misses Ho'iiui jiud Cooper. Bran tiil>s, fish ponds, shooting gallerv, and many other sido-shows added te. the. completeness of tlw "iitertainme-nt. During the evening an entertaining programme was f-irricd nut. "The Trish Washerwoman Dm nee." bv six wee cirls, was keenlv appreciated, and reIwte'l jrrnat credit, on Mrs Mav, v\-hn has spent a lot of time in training them. "A Spanish dance," by the. Sisters Treme-wr.n, was neatly done, and came in for well-de.-served i.nplnnse. " Tho Jap Baby," prettily sung by Miss L. Robinson, assisted by a chorus of little, girls, was well given. Miss McM.ahon sang "Kathleen Mavourneen "in a sweet voice. Mr E. King acted as Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening. The bazaar closed for the evening at • 'leveii o'clock. Tt will be continued until Monday night, when it will conlcmle with .a dance.
