We bear that a rifle match is on the tapis between the Hapier Rifle Club and the detachment bf the 18th Royal Irish. Wairoa Militia.— By a Provincial Government Gazette, issued on Saturday, the third class of Ho. 9 Company of Militia, in the Wairoa District, have been called out for actual service.

The Post Office at Waipukurau has been appointed from the Ist Hovember next to be a Money Order Office and Post Office Saving’s Bank.

The adjourned Annual General Meeting of the Hapier Land and Building Society will take place at the Society’s office, Government Buildings, this (Monday) evening at 8 o’clock.

Shearing has now commenced on some of the stations in this Province. On Friday last ’two drayloads—the first of the season—arrived in town. The above were from the station of Thomas Lowry, Esq.., Okawa.

Militia and Volunteer Hotices. In our advertising columns this morning will be found a notice to the Militia and Volunteers, directing them whei-e to assemble in case of alarm.

The s.s. St. Hilda, steamed for Wairoa on the afternoon bf Monday last, Laving on board his Honor tbe Superintendent, tbe bon. J. C. Richmond, S. Locke, Esq., and Captain St. George. The St. Kilda was closely followed by the Star of the South, which vessel had on hoard about 120 friendly natives, under the chiefs Tareha, Renata, &c: She also had on board a quantity of arms, ammunition, &c.
