SALE OF WORK
A small sale was held by the G.F.S. in St. Matthew’s Schoolroom on Thursday afternoon and evening. An excellent cake-stall was presided over by Mrs. Stubbs; Miss Rainbow and helpers were responsible for a gay and fragrant stand of flowers. The work-stall was managed by Mrs Hayward and helpers, and Mrs Boshier with G.F.S. assistants sold vegetables, jam, and other produce. A sweet stall under G.F.S. management, with pretty baskets of sweets and paper streamers, was kept by Mrs. Johns, Miss K. Stubbs, and others.
Deaconess Holmes was busily employed with a jumble stall, and a bran-tub attracted many children. This was kept going by Miss A. Merry, Miss Linda Donkin, and Miss Florrie Powell. The tea room at the back of the stage had gay Iceland poppies decorating every table, and presented a pretty picture. Mrs Beech. Mrs. Hill, and. helpers managed the refreshments. In the evening Miss Taylor was disguised Father Christmas—an added attraction to the sale, and very enjoyable musical items were given. At the close of the evening the Vicar, Rev. C. Mortimer-Jones, presented prizes won as the result, of competitions, the following being successful:—Miss Linda Garnett for a butter sponge won Mrs. Ebbett’s prize; Miss K. Stubbs won the prize for a plain sponge ; Miss Florrie Powell won the nail-driving competition Mrs. Vogtherr, candle-lighting; and Arnold Green, apple-biting. The proceeds of the sale which were very satisfactory, are for renovations to the G.F.S. room.
