NAPIER LICENSING COMMITTEE

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Napier Licensing Committee was held in Napier to-day. Present: Messrs. A. M. Mowlem, S.M. (chairman), A. W. Pirie, W. G, Martin, A. G. Pallot, H Bate and G. Stubbs. The question of the gravelling of the back yard of the Clarendon Hotel came up. Inspector Cummins said that the work had only been partly done. Mr. Willis, who appeared for the licensee, said that he had filled in the depression which the inspector had complained of, and this had made aneffher depression lower down, causing the water to lodge there. Mr. Willis gave an undertaking that the work would be attended to. A transfer in the license of the Empire Hotel was granted from A. McCarthy to A. M. Herbert. The chairman said that the conunitmittee were pleased to see that in connection with the hotelkeepers the police report showed that in each case the houses had been well conducted and they saw no reason why that state of affairs should not continue.
