WAIPAWA
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs H. M. Rathbone chair), 8. Houghton (secretary), ti. C Collett, L Pratley and W. Yates. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. C H. Critchley. A letter was received from the school staff intimating that it was proposed to hold school sports in the autumn and asking for the committee’s co-operation. The committee agreed to do so and Mr. Yates was appointed 0 represent the committee at a meeting of ladies next Saturday to discuss the matter. The inspector’s report was received and was of a very satisfactory nature and for which it was resolved to congratulate the headmaster and staff. The percentage of passes for proficiency represented 95 per cent. The headmaster advised that u children’s concert would be given on the 16th inst., to be followed by a dance, and that the charge for ad mission would be a nominal one. The headmaster also intimated that the prize-giving ceremony would he held on December 20. the day the school breaks up for the midsummer holidays. Several minor repairs were authorised and it was resolved to apply to the board for new blackboards for the secondary department. OBITUARY. News was received here on Thursday that a native named Sam Wi had died suddenly at Rokomoana station where he had been assisting in shearing operations. Sam was about 70 years of age and had resided in this district all his life and was well known and very popular.
