HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES > SANATORIA PATIENTS. LICENSING BILL. Wellington, Nov. 24. Sir George Hunter (Waipawa) asked in the House of Representatives to-day if the Health Department could arrange for T.B. patients in sanatoria whose cases were incurable to remain in those institutions, instead of removing them to public hospitals. The Minister of Health replied that in such cases he had to be guided by the advice of his experts. Sanatoria were intended to be placed where patients could be taught how best to look after themselves and become fit. if possible, to take their places in ordinary workaday life. Mr Young said he would, however, consider the matter with departmental officers and see if, in special cases, different treatment might be given. Replying to Mr H. Atmore son) wno asked whether in view of the general and increasing dissatisfaction at the present position concerning the Licensing Bill, the Prime Minister would say what was to be done, Mr Coates said he would not make such a statc-mor , because the matter was the subject >.f negotiation between the interested parties. As soon as a decision was reached he would acquaint the House and the country.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. Three days’ leave of absence was granted to the Hon. L. M. Isitt on account of illness. The Council decidea not to insist on its amendment in the Local Legisla tion Bill. The motion of Sir Robert Stout for a return to be furnished, giving details of the expenses of the High Commissioner’s office, was carried by 25 to 8, The Coalmines Amendment Bill was put through the final stages and passed with technical amendments. The Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill was put through the final stages and passed with an amendment providing th a t a motor vehicle plying for hire between two terminal points situated within the districts of different local bodies shall be subject to the charges marie by each uody, hut not by intermediate districts. The Contributory Negligence Bill was read the second time. The report of the joint South IslandAustralia shipping facilities commit too on shinning facilities between South Island ports and Australia was referrea’ to the Government for -favourable consideration after a brief discussion.
