Mrs W. Johnstone, of Waipukurau. is at present spending a few weeks’ holiday in Wairoa. being on a visit to her daughter.
The Rev C. Brierly who has been stationed as Home Missionary at Turadalo for the past four years has roceived word from the New Zealand Assembly now sitting in Christchurch, that he has been unanimously admitted to the full ministry.
Archbishop Averill, of Auckland, who has been on a flying visit to his son, Mr E. Averill, of Hastings, left by mail train this morning for Wanganui, where ho will lay the founda tiou stone of the preparatory school in connection with tho Wanganui College.
tn addition to Miss Gladis Guthrie’s rec-ent success with her cob at the Manawatu Show, she has just received word of her having won the McHardy Memorial Hup. valued at fifty guineas, as well as the society a gold medal, valued at rive guineas, for most points scored in all light horse classes and competitions. This cup cannot be won outright. Miss Guthrie’s mnnv frieads in Hawke’s Bay and outside the province will be glad to hear of her nne achievement.

A service was held at St. Paul’s Wellington, yesterday, in memory ot the late Mr Justice A'lpers. The ourial service was read auu the pau bearers assisted. Among those present were tho Speaker, Sir C. E. Statham, Hon <F. J. Builestou, Sir K. H Rhodes, Sir C P. bkerrett, Sir Robert Stout, Sir Joseph Ward, Sir John Luke, Mr Justice MacGregor and Mr Justice Frazer, and many members of the Bar and representative public men. Tho actual funeral took place at Christchurch to-day.
