BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
AND THE AFTER EVENTS.
SEQUEL IN NAPIER COURT.
John Adams, watersider. celebrated three birthdays on November 2, and had no recollection of after events.
He appeared at the Napier Court this morning charged with assaulting j, Winifred Cnfton, and further, with • stealing one fowl valued at 5/-. The complainant, in evidence, stated that she was outside with a young man named McKennie when, as a result of a conversation overheard in the neighbouring backyard, they hid behind a tree. A few moments later they saw Adams pass by and go to the fowlhouse. In a few moments they heard a fowl call out. Witness then exclaimed: “You are pinching our fowls.” She then tried to take it from Adams, when he struck her across the chest. In an ensuing scramble witness was again hit and also McKennie, who joined in.
Adams stated that he had had a few drinks, after which he felt sick and did not have any recollection of what happened. “By putting your money into your home, which the police tell me is most wretched, instead of into the hotels, you would be doing a good service, not only to vour family, but to yourself,” said His Worship, in imposing a fine of £2 on each charge, and ordering Adams to be prohibited for 12 months.
