PRESBYTERIAN RESOLUTION.

Christchurch, Nov. 17,

The Presbyterian General Assam bly received with expressions of satisfaction the news that the prohibition members in th e House of Representatives had carried the day in the fight on the Licensing Bill, but dismay and indignation was expressed conccrnig Mr Coates’ decision not withdraw the bill. After a discussion, in which some speakers referred to the “solemn assurances” given by the Prim e Minister that the bill would be left to a free vote of Parliament and expressed disapprobation of his latest action, the following resolution was carried: —

That the following telegram be despatched to the Prime Minister: “The Presbyterian General Assembly, now in session at Christchurch, hopes you will continue the Licensing Bill in view of your repeated assurances that the bil l should have a fair run and be left to th e free vote of Parliament.”
