ARBITRATION COURT
SITTING OPENED AT NAPIER.
CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.
The Arbitration Court opened its sitting at Napier this morning, when Mr. Justice Frazer presided. Associated with him were Messrs, A. L. Monteith (representing the workers) and W. Scott (representing the employers). An application fo rthe hearing of a claim by George Fisher McKay, telegraph linesman, of Hastings, •gainst the Crown, was withdrawn. The claim for compensation by Whatu Henare, of Wairoa, from the Wairoa Flaxmills Ltd. was held over until the next sitting of the Court. John Lawrence Mclntosh, labourer, of Rotorua, formerly of Tipapakuku, near Dannevirke, claimed compensation by weekly payments of £3 9/7 ffom Henry Bodley, contractor, of Porangahau. Mr. T. H. G. Lloyd appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. E. Gibbard represented the defendant. The plaintiff, in his claim, stated that he was engaged as a motor lorry driver by the defendant, and while in this employment the plaintiff met with an accident, which resulted in , the plaintiff sustaining a broken collarbone and serious injuries to the muscles Mnd nerves of his right ram. The plaintiff’s injuries were of a permanent nature, and he had since not been able to do any work at all. The defence claimed that it was not the defendant that employed the plaintiff, but the defendant’s wife.
