NEW SCHOOL SITE
FOR HASTINGS CENTRAL
COMMITTEE’S APPROVAL,
QUESTION REFERRED TO DEPARTMENT.
With reference to the proposed new eite for the Hastings Central School the committee to-aay informed the Hawke’s Bay Education Board that they approved of the suggestion that a site in " : road which was now under offer to the Board, should be accepted. Mr. G. A. Maddison pointed out that this site which consisted of six acres, offered great advantages. It would only mean shifting the school by about a quarter of a mile. The present site.. he said, was in an industrial area, while the new one was in an area that would remain a residential locality. A number of areas there had recently been sub-divided and sold, which would mean that it soon will be carrying a consideiable population. AT A REASONABLE PRICE. The present site, said Mr. Maddison, could never be improved, while the new one was a fine propery, which could be obtained at a most reasonable price (£1850). The present site could probably be sold at between £4,000 and £5,000. Mr. Maddison pointed ont that the new site would actually be 30 chains nearer the centre of the town than Cornwall Park. From every point of view the suggestion to secure this site was one of the most valuable zttade to the board. It was decided that the position be placed before the Department with a view to acquiring the site.
