W.Farquhar, arrived from Auckland at 4 p.m. on Tuesday last, with a large general cargo, and a quantity of pure-bred stock.—The Star will steam for Auckland at 3 p.m. to-day. The s.s. Rangatira, Capt. J. Griffiths, arrived from Poverty Bay at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, and left for Wellington at 8 o'clock the same evening. The A.S.P. Oo.'s s.s. Pretty Jane, Capt. W. Palmer, arrived from Poverty Bay and Auckland, shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday, with a full general cargo.-She steamed for Poverty Bay and Auckland last evening. The sohooner Saucy Lass, Capt. Jas. Smith, arrived from Auckland yesterday, with the following cargo:—10,000 feet timber, 20,0G0 shingles. 1,240 slates. 29 tons doors and sashes, and 26 pkgs furniture. The sohooner Effie Meikle, Captain Schultze, arrived from Auckland yesterday with a cargo of timber. The schooner Colonist, Capt. Moller, arrived from Wangapoa, yesterday afternoon, with 36,000 feet timber. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS, NEW PLYMOUTH. 17th March. The Maid of Otago, when entering the Waitotara river during the heavy gale on Saturday, bad her rodder carried away, which caused her to run aground on the north spit, inside the bar. Her cargo is being discharged, when she will probably be got off. She is from Pictou. with a cargo of timber for the Waitara railway. 19th March. The Maid of Otago is expected to be got off the Spit. The damage is estimated at £2OO. WELLINGTON. 17th March. JE.M.S. Blanche iett Wellington on the 19th February, and reached the Auckland Islands on the 26th. She remained at Port Ross until the 2nd March. She visited, repaired, and painted the store-houses. She steamed round the island looking for signs of shipwrecked seamen. Left on the sth. fine went to Oampbell's Island, and landed an. Perseverance harbor, Found that the {French war transport Lavore had left there ion the Ist of January. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Ship China, 120 days fipm London, has arrived with one passenger, three pedigree bulla, 27 sheep, 810 tons railway iron, and 600 tons genera! cargo. English Ships for New Zealand.—A telegram from the Agent General, dated London, March 6th, states that the following ships, with emigrants, sailed during February :—Verutia,' for'•Canterbury, with 323 persons ; Atrato, steamship, for Otago and Canterbury, with 770; Schiehallion, for Napier, ,160.; Hague, H for Wellington, with 440; Fleming and tivo other vessels, for Otago, with 720 ; Roukarell, for Auckland, with 360 ; Ballochmyle,for Canterbury, with 480. Twenty-four vessels were to be despatched during March and April. They were to bring amongst their cargo 2400 tons of rails, 14 sets of points. 7 turn-tables, and 108 pipes. "It is to be regretted," the Agent • General adds, " that the Atrato has to return to Plymouth, her piston rod being broken." DUNK DIN. 19th March. Otago, Captain M-Lean, arrived at 9 a.m.; she left Melbourne on the 12th. She brings 506 tons cargo, 38 cabin, and 76 steerage passengers. MELBOURNE. 14th March. The Tartar will return with the San Francisco mails on Saturday, full of passengers. LONDON. 6th March. The steamship Atrato returned to Plymouth yesterday with her machinery disabled. ' 10th March. New Line of Ships to New Zealand. —Messrs. Henderson and Co have commenced to run a new line of clipper ships between London and Otago with the William Davie, on the 15th February.. The Atrato has been placed on the berth by Shaw, Saville and Co. The Basilisk has been ordered home. Captain Stephen, of the steamer Cyphreus, was drowned during a gale in the channel two days after leaving London. His newly married wife was on board. A Collision occurred on the Tyne through reckless steering, by which twenty men lost their lives.
