Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1872.

A small parcel of flax and rope, from Mr Burton's station, "Whakaki, intended for exhibition at Christchurch, arrived by the schooner Hero to-day. In the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day a boy named John Macartby was brought up on four different charges of theft,. The articles stolen comprised two silver watches, a wedding-ring, and a silver pencil-case. He was consigned to prison for four months. Uiggins v. W. Withers.—Claim of £l2 3s 6d. —Judgment for amount claimed, with 10s costs. Higgins v. Renata.—Claim of £l4. Judgment for .£l3 15s with £1 3« costs. Heath v. Whiimore.— Claim of £9 10s wages.—This was in reality a claim for Is 6d disputed balance, the remainder of the claim being already paid.—Judgment for Is 6d, without costs. By advertisement in another column it will be seen that a little book has been published to assist the Scandinavian immigrants in the acquirement of the English language. The pamphlet, which, as its name imports, is an " introduction " to English grammar and pronunciation, contains in. addition an extensive classified vocabulary of words in common use, besides useful sentences and idiomatic phrases. It contains also tables of Engludi money, weights, and measures, New Zealand rates of postage, &c, &c, and v. ill not only be of value to the immigrants, but will be of great assistance to those employing Scandinavians The price of the book is Is; and it is printed and published at the office of this paper. The Southern Cross, Dec. 2, says : A case of sudden death occurred on Saturday morning on the Onehunga Road. A man named Richard Armstrong, while riding along the Epsom Road was observed to dismount and sit down, apparently in pain, on the side of the road. After the lapse of a short time he again got on the horse, but after riding a short distance ho dismounted and appeared to be seized with a fit. He was placed on a spring cart by some passers-by, and conveyed to the Prince Albert Hotel, but expired before medical assistance could be obtained, and almost at the instant of his arrhal at the hotel. Serjeant Pardy and Detective Jeffrey, who were passing at the time, left the body al the hotel to await an inquest, which will be held to-day. The deceased had we understand only arrived the day before fiom Corotnandel, and was formerly a resident of Onehunga, where he worked at Mr Roe's saw-mills. He was about 30 years of age.
