Hawkes's Bay Times Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1872.
In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning T Jeffares was charged by C. Deinpsey with having, on Sunday, the 10th hist., unlawfully released eleven head of cattle from the Taradale pound. The circumstances connected with the release have already been reported in our columns. The complainant claimed «£2 4s—2s per head receiving and delivery, and 2s per head damages, which lattei sum he had been obliged to pay the person impounding the cattle, in proof of which lie produced a receipt. On the other side it was contended that the cattle were not legally impounded, inasmuch as no description, had been h an Jed to ihe pound keeper, though they had been in the pound three or four hours.—On this ground his Worship dismissed the information. Davis v. Caul tan..—• Claim of £1 15s for attendance on a sick man named White, who died in hospital on the 12th inst. Defendant only recognised his liability to the extent of Vss, which sum he had paid ifttpy Qaurt, —Judgment fo\* J 5s without
costs. Wells v. Mayo.—Claim of .£2 6s, alleged balance due for attendance on a man named Miller while suffering under delirium tremens. ,£1 had already been paid, which defendant contended was a full discharge.—Die* aliased. Mails for the Thames and Auckland close at the Port Ahuriri Post Office at 11.30 a.m. to-morrow. We learn that ihe hon. the Native Minister, accompanied by Colonel St. John and Mr. J. H. Campbell, leaves for the East Coast in the Luna this evening.
